hooray for hollywood

Living in Los Angeles addicted me to celebrity.

Okay, fine, I was addicted long before that. I LOVE pop culture. I drink it in. I memorize songs, I read every movie review I can get my hands on, I live for the TV Guide.

Okay, fine, I live for Jesus, but I do love pop culture.
Which is why it is so great that my WONDERFUL !!!!! DAD !!!!!!!!! sends me the latest issues of Entertainment Weekly, my favorite magazine (it should be yours too)

It has helped immensely as I can laugh, cry, sigh in relief with the rest of America through the ups and downs of Oscar drama, ended strikes, television romances that I don't get to see only can read about...

The truth is that I used EW for this time-and-money-saving purpose before I moved to Thailand. I do not have the resources to watch every show/movie that becomes a cultural touchstone. Yet, I do not wish to be left out. I wish to participate in every converstation I can, offering my thoughts on the Foreign Film Oscar snubs, who should win American Idol, and what's really happening with the guy and the beard and the future on Lost. But I haven't seen these things so the only way I can participate is by reading about them in Entertainment weekly (also where I get all my Harry Potter opinions--- MUCH faster than the book series).

The only problem is that the main person I converse with in English now is my roommate, Michelle. However she can't watch anything either AND she reads my issues of EW so basically our conversations are really just rehashes of the articles.

But that doesn't mean i'm going to stop reading anytime soon.

(Dad this is our neighbor Uut, checking out an article. )

Hey Lexie!
I love reading your updates and the pictures. I also really enjoyed the video of your quest to rescue your straw posted on your housemate's site. My question is... How did it end? Did you succeed? Anyway, it was... Enthralling? And it made me laugh.

Lots of love, friend!!

Please let's hang out soon. I'm glad that you're feeling better. Did you see Once at the Lido theater? It's amazing! Go see it!

Hey Lexie. Hit me up if you ever want to talk pop culture. I have been spending a lot of time with this family in Wheaton that we go to church with- they have two teenage boys who are TOTALLY obsessed with pop culutre and put me to shame. I don't watch TV either, but I do get Rolling Stone magazine (Christmas gift from my aunt) And after the Grammys I actually got into this big Amy Winehouse kick. I was just fascinated with her and her music. I also think she's kind of cute, too.
But, I hope you are doing well in Bangkok. I'm praying for you always! peace
