the saddest sight.

One more picture from my east coast trip:

I had been travelling all day. Taken a taxi to Long Beach, a plane to JFK, a train to Brooklyn where I ate with friends, a bus to Manhattan where I met more friends at a bar, walked to a diner and at 1 am or something got on a subway back to Queens. Here is our conversation on the subway:

Ren: "I like your flip-flops Lex."

Me: "Oh thank you, they're new."

Ren: "Wait a minute.... are they on the wrong feet?"

Johanna, sitting across from us, snapped this picture at that moment. Ren asked, "How did you not notice that four of your toes were squished into the space for one toe?"
I don't know.

A lot has happened since the last time I posted something on this blog!
1) I moved to Los Angeles just north of Chinatown. It's an exciting place to live. From the porch of our apartment building you can see all the highrises of downtown LA, only a few blocks away. My street is a long hill and many Chinese people live there-- in the morning you can smell yummy Chinese dishes cooking and out on the street, grandpas in pajamas are doing morning exercises. This morning I took my journal to Intelligentsia, an LA extension of the Chicago chain about a mile from our apt. Sitting at the cafe, I could see a beautiful flower shop, some broken down auto care places, and the famous Hollywood hill sign all right there. I also lovelovelove living with Maite again and getting to know Wendy better-- they are wonderful roommates. It's great to have a place again.

2) I read two books. I'm an ADD reader so I rarely finish books. I read the fun Jane Austen Book Club and the other I found on my grandma's bookshelf at the beach:It's by the author of Hang Loose with Jesus.
3) I resigned from my job. My last day is October 18th. It's been 3 1/2 years that I've worked at Life Pacific-- it will be quite a change!
4) I went to a reunion of arts camp friends in New York: (I was going to post a picture for each of those but it's taking a really long time!! I give up.)
5) I went on a family vacation to Rehoboth, DE, a beloved and familiar spot for my family.
